From time
to time, we get to work on some amazing projects which
add a little bit of kudos to our portfolio. Just
to give you a little taster, we have an overview and
some visuals of a few that we have worked on in the
past.

The Ice
House, Argyleshire, Scotland
The 'reflectorium'
- a curved glass structure that replicates the barrel
vault shape of the Ice House - was the creation of owner
Laird Henderson.
Together with George Clarke’s architectural experience
and CSGS’ expertise in structural glass applications,
this vision has been brought to life, exceeding
everyone’s expectations. The installation looks truly organic, as the
roof panels emerge from the existing rock formations,
which were cut to receive the glass panels by Laird.
CSGS Limited also introduced double glazed walk-on floor
panels which highlight the bedrock stone below the
structure. The
front façade of the structure was manufactured using
heated glass technology which controls the temperature
of the space - winter and summer - without the need for
under floor heating or radiators. The whole
installation has been a major team effort by everyone
involved, all of whom are truly proud of the works.
The project was screened on Channel 4's "The Restoration
Man" in May 2010.
Seeley Library
The Seeley
Library, established in 1807 in honour of Sir John
Seeley, is housed in the History faculty building at the
University of Cambridge. Our remit was to supply
and install internal secondary glazing complete with
motorised opening vents that would allow or restrict
passive air movement subject to external weather
conditions. This also enhanced the acoustic values
which are obviously important for a library/study
environment. We also replaced all the existing
internal balustrading from 1960's tubular steelwork to
contemporary free-standing glass.
Royal
Institute of Great Britain
The Royal
Institute, an independent charity bringing science to
the public, were awarded lottery funds to update and
refurbish. We were contracted to install glass
bridges and a scenic lift enclosure.
'Grand Designs'
We
worked on a private residence in Kent that was featured
on C4's Grand Designs TV programme. This project
used heated IQ Glass™
as
its major heating component. A very ambitious
design that was a perfect example of how versatile,
beautiful and effective heated glass is. Using
almost 100 full height glass panels on the project
overall, you can see the effect is quite stunning.
Private residence
in Jersey
Our remit
on this project was to install curved structural glass
panels around an infinity pool in this gorgeously
located residence in Jersey. Overlooking the ocean
and several feet from ground level, this was the perfect
compliment to an already desirable property.
Project in
progress so pictures unavailable at this time.
Sheffield University
One of the
UK's leading universities, our contract on this
particular project was to supply and install an atrium
rooflight constructed from very high performance
structural sealed double glazed units supported from
'3-ply' laminated glass beams. The interesting
part of this project is that the rooflight was
constructed to a helix shape to mirror the vertical
walls directly below.
Sky Bar,
The Triangle, Manchester
We
installed the glass on this amazing bar located in the
very cosmopolitan retail hub, The Triangle in
Manchester. We worked on this project with Midas
Technologies. (RIBA EM
Award Winner 2005)
Tower Mill,
Hawick, Scotland
A derelict
spinning mill and category 'A' listed building built
over a river, incorporating a 14 foot high water wheel,
Tower Mill has been completely renovated as part of the
Heart of Hawick project. It has been converted
into a theatre and cinema with visitor centre , cafe and
bar and exhibition centre. We installed a two
storey external glass entrance and an external glass
terrace over the river as well as a unique glass floor
over the over largest waterwheel in the South of
Scotland. A really exciting project and one of
which we are exceptionally proud.
Newbury
On this
project, we were required to design, supply and install
vertical glass facades and rooflights with minimal
amount of visible mechanical fixings. What these
images don't convey is the stunning location of these
houses which overlook the river in a very picturesque
part of the town.
Deptford Podium
This
modern, communal leisure area was created using
freestanding structural glass balustrades with an
overhead canopy.
The end
result was an attractive al fresco space for the local
residents to enjoy.
Lion Plaza, Threadneedle Street, London EC2
Situated
opposite the historic Stock Exchange in London, Lion
Plaza is (as far as we are aware!) one of the largest,
non-mechanically fixed, structurally bonded glass
structures in Europe and the first of its kind.
The entrance wind lobby has auto doors at either side
creating a glass passageway. The glass panels are
26mm laminated toughened, bonded together using
structural silicone.
Cutting
through the 'box' are 6m high laminated curved panels
which are again, structurally bonded together.
